Brisbane South Bank Markets
Southbank Markets, located in the middle of Brisbane's Southbank Parklands, provides something a little different for its visitors – night markets. Forget getting up early to drive out to the morning markets. Drop in to Southbank on any Friday night and spend till 10pm browsing the many colourful stalls.
Situated in Stanley Street Plaza, within South Bank, the markets sell a variety of goods, handcrafted jewellery, art and gourmet food. Watch buskers and other entertainers perform, or get your cards read by a tarot reader.
While you're there, soak up the atmosphere at one of Brisbane, Australia's favourite playgrounds. South Bank is located on the banks of the Brisbane River, on the edge of the city. At night, the city lights blaze and, on special occasions, the river is also ablaze with the colour and spectacle of fireworks. South Bank gives you a front row seat.
When you've stocked up at the markets, choose from a range of attractions and things to do within the parklands. Little Stanley Street is full of retail stores and places to eat. Or you can see an outdoor movie, go to a restaurant, a local pub or café – all within metres of the markets themselves.
The Southbank Markets are open 5-10pm every Friday night. But for those who like their daytime stroll around the markets, they're open 11am-5pm Saturdays and 9am-5pm Sundays.
While there is limited paid parking available, public transport is a much more comfortable and easy option. Catch a bus, train or ferry to stops right outside the Parklands. It couldn't get any easier.
